Best Free Antivirus for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 laptop

Whether you own a laptop or desktop computer, you need to keep it protected and one way to do that is by keeping an updated antivirus software installed. The software which comes in both free and paid version and I am sure you are ready to use one. Here is a list of best free antivirus for Windows 8.1 and 8 OS version running systems.

If you begin the search for the best antivirus on your own, then the internet is going to offer a lot of options to you. There are high chances that you end up getting a faked product or the one which is not genuine or developed by a known software developer company.

The business of antivirus is really huge and there are companies which have been in it since years. They do not just have products to counter viruses or any other kind of known threats to the internet but they also have a database for the viruses and all other threats. That database is kept updated day by day and a proper research is always being conducted, which together focus on improving the status of the software.

Best Free Antivirus for Windows 8

So, you need to trust this guide as I have been a power internet user and also happen to have a degree in computer science. I have been aware of things going at the internet universe and so following recommended antivirus software are all used and tested by me over years.

Last year, I bought a Windows 8 laptop which was later upgraded to Windows 8.1. While using both the systems I manage to test a bunch of antiviruses which now I am sharing with you and you can easily try them.

So, here I begin.

#1 Microsoft Security Essential

Earlier before this software was launched, I always used to wonder why Microsoft isn’t trying anything in this antivirus industry. They know computers more than any other company and they should offer a protection service. Then came this, Microsoft Security Essential, a free program with every new Windows OS package.

You need to activate it once you start a new Windows computer and after that it needs a first update. The first update takes some time since it needs to download and install tons of package and virus update definitions. But, after it’s done with its own chores, it is all set to offer its best in class services.

It works silently in the background and doesn’t cost on the performance of the system too much. It can scan almost any storage device connected to your system including the internal HDD and of course it offers online internet security. With all those features, it is the handiest software you can use and luckily, Microsoft don’t charge for its usage. If your PC usage are limited to personal and normal work, then this program will do all the things you ever needed.

#2 Avast

This is the next name in the industry. Avast is the one you should be looking for if you are a heavy internet user, and so does the antiviruses mentioned after it. It comes in both free and premium versions. I don’t recommend going for its free version, but still it can work pretty well to offer a deep level of protection.

It can scan files and folders on its own and can also be triggered manually. It can protect your identity and other information over the internet and I am sure that you are going to love the way it works. The user interface is pretty sleek and simple. The only thing I don’t like it is that it shouts for the update. It literally speaks with you, which is loud and kind of noisy. Rest, I never found anything wrong with it.

#3 AVG

This is the antivirus I have been using on my personal Sony Vaio laptop and also on my Nexus 7. It works without any fee (the free version) and offers tons of features. The free version even offers some premium services for the Android tablet. Coming at the Windows computer, it can protect your system anytime and until you switch it off, it can never allow any single virus or malware to enter.

The user interface is developed for the Windows 8 design primarily and AVG was first to adopt this new Windows theme. You can even find it over the Microsoft Store app which is installed on your Windows 8/8.1 powered laptop. Of course, it offers a premium version as well, which offers better protection but it never shout for anything and never forces you to go for the paid one. If you prefer such little things, then you are going to have a good experience with AVG.

#4 Norton Security

Last but not the least, Norton Security have been protected millions of computers since a decade and I am sure you wanted a similar trustworthy and old name to start with. Its user interface is pretty and unique enough to distinguish it from any other software in the industry. From the moment it gets installed and activated, it starts running without a cost and spread its protection layer around the computer you have.

It sometimes cost too much on the overall performance and I also find few people complaining about its uninstallation process which never gets 100% successful. Personally, I never found any issues and so I am recommending it to you.

Final Words

These are recommendations from my side and I want you to choose one out of them. Each of them is known for its services since years and I am 100% sure that none of them is going to offer any bad experience to you.

Of course, each of them has their pros and cons but at the end of the day, each one of them is capable of protecting the data at your computer and its life. Do share which one you are finally picking up. Peace.
