The best thing about the Android platform, is that anything can be possible. If somethings are missing to be made possible yet, of course, there are many, then we just have to wait for someone to come up with a fully functional solution. It all started with the development and public release of the Android platform.
So, if you’re interested in doing those things using the very powerful super smartphone in your hand, then start with controlling VLC media player on the computer. Yes, it is possible using the same official app, which must be already installed and ready to use.
How to Remote Control VLC with your Android Phone
The procedure is not that straight, as you can expect. But, it is not that hard for you to become a complete tech savvy, or even root the Android phone. No such things will be required, but the only thing you need to do, is to go through the following set of instructions, as it is.
Step 1 – Start with installing a fresh version of the VLC media player, in case if it’s not installed yet. In some cases, the newer version might not work. So, you need to install an older version, instead. The software can be downloaded for free from its official website.
Step 2 – Once installed, move into Tools option, and then select the Preferences option. Now, select the ‘All’ option under those settings so that all the options appear on the right panel.
Step 3 – Now, once the advanced settings appears, select the Main interfaces option available under the Interface named main option.
Step 4 – Finally, select the ‘HTTP remote control interface’ option, and make sure its enabled. The desktop part is over now. But, you need to make sure that the VLC app is running on the PC, during the attempt of remote controlling.
Step 5 – At the phone side, you need to start with downloading the VLC remote controller app for Android. You can get it from either source 1, or source 2.
Step 6 – Install the app, and if it fails, then you need to enable one option available under the Security Settings of your phone, that says ‘Unknown sources..’.
Step 7 – Launch the app once its ready to use and inside the same, it will try to connect to the VLC PC app, automatically. But, in most of the cases, the automatic connection doesn’t work. So, you need to insert the IP of the system, manually and then the connection will establish for sure. The related settings can be found under the ‘Settings’ option inside the ‘Menu’ on the app.
Done! The connection process is done, and now you’re allowed to access Playlists, or Browser media files and either run, pause, or continue watching any video files or listen to audio ones, remotely.
I guess, the procedure was simple and it took place at your end, without any issues. If you did find any errors, then kindly explain that side in the discussion section below, and I’ll come up with a dedicated solution ASAP. Peace.
